Gala event of Sari Exhibition held by the Embassy in collaboration with the Municipality of Las Condes in Santiago. Ambassador inaugurated the exhibition “Six meters of Grace in silk from India”   the exquisite traditional and contemporary collection of Indian silk saris, on 8 November 2021. The public exhibition was held at prominent House-Museum, Santa Rosa de Apoquindo, a 200-year old prominent heritage House in Santiago, also the summer house of first President of Chile.  Ambassadors and Diplomats from other Embassies in Chile, distinguished guests from Chile and Indian community attended the inauguration.

As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Embassy of India commemorated Dr. Ambedkar: Mahaparinirvan Divas on 06th December 2021 at its premises. Floral tribute was paid to the photo of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by Ambassador and the participants. Ambassador addressed the Mission officials and spoke about the significance of the occasion and teachings of Dr. Ambedkar. Embassy held a photo exhibition on the life of Dr. Ambedkar, displayed books on him and screened a documentary on his life for public viewing.

As part of #AmritMahotsav celebrations, a 3-member Indian Expedition Team from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling displayed a gigantic 7500 Sq.FT Indian National Flag at Mt. Vinson Base camp, Antarctica on 27 November 2021, making India proud to be the first country in world to display a gigantic flag in Antarctica. Many foreigners joined the Indian Team at the Flag Display point. On 30 November, the Team made successful climb to Mt. Vinson Summit, highest mountain of Antarctica, braving strong winds and minus 35 degree temperature. The team performed 125 Sequence of Surya namaskar and Vinyasa Yoga at Vinson base camp under minus 25 degree temp and again displayed the 7500 SFT Indian flag at Union Glacier along with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Flag and also undertook MTB (cycle rally) at Union Glacier. The team did para jumping with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Flag in Santiago. On 13 December 2021, Ambassador received the successful Team in the Embassy and felicitated them.

The Embassy gave wide publicity to the Youth PBD Conference through its social media handles, emails and consular contacts  for the active  participation by the members of Youth Diaspora in Chile.  On the Mission’s recommendations of, a young entrepreneur from Chile was selected and participated as one of the 7 panelists in the virtual PBD conference for the Youth on 9th January 2022 on the topic “Role of Diaspora Youth in AKAM – Innovation and New Technologies”. The Conference was held successfully to mark the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas  and India@75.

As part of Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Embassy of India celebrated National Youth Day and Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on 12 January 2022.  Suryanamaskar yoga and Indian classical music performance on Tabla and Sitar were held at Chancery premises which filled the environment with energy and musical harmony. Online activities like Quiz on the life of Swami Vivekananda and Essay writing on the topic ‘Vision of Youth for India@2047’ were also held.  The online link containing presentations, Briefs, Speeches and other resources on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda was shared on Mission’s social media along with information on celebration of National Youth Day. Embassy officials &  families, members of Indian diaspora and India lovers enthusiastically participated in the event.

Embassy of India, Santiago celebrated the 73rd Republic Day of India on 26 January 2022 at its premises. Ambassador unfurled the Indian Flag and read out President’s address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day and thereafter shared his thoughts with the audience about the ongoing friendly relational between India and Chile, effective management in dealing with Covid-19 pandemic in both countries, upcoming India related commercial, cultural and other events in Chile. Additionally, photo exhibitions on Unsung Heroes of Indian Freedom Struggle, Subhash@125, Aurobindo@150 and modern Indian Innovations in Science & Technology, IT, Space and Start-ups were displayed for public viewing on the occasion. The Sanskrit learning App Little Guru was also formally launched. A large number of Indian diaspora members and friends of India attended the event.

Celebrating Unsung Heroes

On 30th January 2022, to pay Homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 74th Martyrs’ Day and salute other leaders who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country, a talk by Dr Shobhana Radhakrishna (Internationally Acclaimed Speaker on Mahatma Gandhi) titled “Satyagraha - The Pathway to Global Peace” was done in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Embassy streamed the talk on its Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Embassy of India celebrated International Day of Yoga on 18 June 2022 in Santiago in association with the local Municipality of Las Condes with participation of some yoga schools of Chile in an indoor gym. Chilean yoga lovers joined the celebration in big numbers along with members of Indian diaspora. Ambassador addressed an impressive gathering of around 150 yoga enthusiasts on the occasion and spoke on importance of Yoga for the mankind and healthy life for all. Four yoga teachers from Chile performed different yoga asanas and breathing exercises followed by the participants for about 2 hours.

Embassy of India celebrated International Day of Yoga in Santiago and participated in the Guardian Ring For Yoga on 21 June 2022. Ambassador addressed about 50 yoga enthusiasts gathered on the occasion including local Chileans and members of Indian diaspora, on the importance of Yoga for humanity and Yoga for all. Director(Asia-Pacific) from Foreign Ministry of Chile represented Chilean Government. Yoga asanas as per standard yoga protocol were performed by Yoga teacher and followed by all participants for one hour. A brief coverage of the event was telecast live on DD India TV.

The 2-month-long exhibition was inaugurated by Ambassador of India on 22 June 2022 in presence of impressive gathering of around 100 guests including Guest of Honour, Mr Felipe Muñoz, Mayor of Estacion Central, Santiago, many Ambassadors/Diplomats of other Embassies in Chile, senior Chilean officials from different Departments and members of the Indian diaspora. The exhibition scheduled for public viewing from 23 June to 28 August 2022, providing an opportunity for art lovers in Chile to see a unique style of art work from India. On the inauguration of the Exhibition during AKAM Special Week event, Mission organized performance of Bhangra folk dance by local artists and Indian cuisines were served to the guests. The AKAM Special Week was celebrated from 22-28 June 2022 and during the period more than 1700 visitors visited the Exhibition.

Embassy celebrated 76th Independence Day of India with huge gathering of Indian community and friends of India in Chile. Ambassador hoisted the national flag and read out President's Address to the nation. The gathering sang the national anthem of India and waived flags in hands as part of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. A photo exhibition on India's National Flag was also put up for public viewing. Ambassador awarded medals and certificates to the winners of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav quiz from Chile on the occasion. TVN Channel, National TV of Chile telecast the interview of Indian Ambassador and his spouse on 15 August 2022 in which they spoke about Indian culture and traditions and demonstrated preparation of Indian cuisine.

As part of India@75 events to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence, 75 years of progressive India, the glorious history of it’s people, culture and achievements, a colourful event of "The costumes of India" was organized by the Embassy of India on 10 November 2022 at India House in Santiago. Ambassador made a welcome address and spoke about the importance and evolution of the Indian traditional women dress “Sari” in the Indian subcontinent over five thousand years and the process and emotion around which Saris are woven and worn in India. Demonstration and draping of the Sari in different Indian styles as well as on wearing of many Indian modern dresses like Salwar Kameez, Lehenga Choli, Sharara, etc were also done. Indian Chai (Tea) as welcome drink with snacks and exotic Indian cuisine and Indian desserts were served for lunch in the event. Beautiful decoration of Indian handicrafts items at the event venue added to the colourful and flavourful noon with Indian classical music in the background. The overall ambiance was very Indian with presence of Indian traditional costumes, food, music and handicraft decorations. The event very well engaged the participants with introduction of Indian culture and traditions and Indian hospitality.

On 18 November, Embassy celebrated ITEC Day at its premises with enthusiastic participation of more than 75 ITEC alumni, many senior officials from the Government and Universities of Chile. Ambassador S. Bhattacharjee addressed the gathering on the importance and benefits of ITEC Program and its contribution in bilateral relations. Around 300 officials from Chile have attended ITEC program in India since 2007. Two officials of Electoral Service of Chile who were leaving India for their ITEC course on 19 Nov ‘22 also joined the event. Ambassador spoke about the Statue of Unity in India, the tallest statue in world and on Embassy's upcoming activities. A photo exhibition of Indian tourist attractions was put up at event. Participants enjoyed the event and the Indian cuisine and ITEC alumni refreshed their memories of India visit and shared their experiences with each other.

As part of Amrit Mahotsav celerbation, Indian Film Festival - A Glimpse of Bollywood was inaugurated by Ambassador of India in Santiago on 12 January in association with Centro Cultural Carabineros of Chile. A popular Bollywood movie Neerja was screened to an impressive gathering of Chilean officials, general public, Indian & International community and Indian movie lovers in Chile. In his address Ambassador spoke about the evolution of Indian cinema popularly known as Bollywood, for over 100 years back and its ongoing glorious journey in becoming the largest film industry of the world achieving many milestones, spreading Indian culture and traditions across the world. More Indian movies are planned for screening later in March and April.

Embassy celebrated the 74th Republic Day of India on 26 January 2023 at its premises. Ambassador unfurled the Indian Flag and read out President’s address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day and thereafter shared his thoughts with the audience on the friendly relational between India and Chile, important developments and achievements of India. He mentioned about Embassy's commercial, cultural and other activities held recently and the upcoming events and invited the community to participate in such events enthusiastically. On 22 March 2023, Ambassador of India, S. Bhattacharjee, and the Vice Minister for International Economic Relations (SUBREI) in the Foreign Ministry of Chile, H.E. Ms. Claudia Sanhueza Riveros, jointly inaugurated a Buyer-Seller-Meet of Handloom Export Promotion Council of India on Handloom products in Santiago. The 2-day BSM event was attended by a diverse group of participants from both countries. The primary focus of the event was to promote the growing trade relations between India and Chile, which both speakers emphasized in their addresses. The Indian business delegation, consisting of 28 handloom exporters held meeting with 55 Chilean traders. The event saw more than 180 business meetings between the Indian and the Chilean businessmen making it a successful and productive BSM.

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (India@75) Special Week celebrations, the Indian Embassy organized a series of events from 30 March to 5 April 2023, during visit of Indian Punjabi Folk Dance Troupe - Nachda Punjab Cultural Mirror. On March 30th, the troupe participated in a workshop at the University of Santiago in Chile, followed by an inauguration performance on March 31st at the famous WOMAD Chile International Festival in Santiago. On April 1st, the Indian Troupe performed at the main event of WOMAD Chile International Festival in presence of Ambassador of India, Mr. S. Bhattacharjee, and Mayor of Recoleta in Santiago, Mr. Daniel Jadue, receiving loud cheers and applause from the thousands of people in attendance. On April 2nd, the troupe performed at the Fundación Cultural Lo Prado in front of an enthusiastic Chilean audience who even joined the troupe on stage to learn some Indian dancing steps. Ambassador addressed the audience, highlighting the diversity and richness of India's ancient and colorful culture. On April 3rd, the troupe performed at Chilean Police Academy in Santiago and received thunderous applause for their energetic and entertaining performance. Ambassador spoke about India's multifaceted and rich cultural heritage, including its captivating arts, lively traditions, and profound spiritual legacy. On April 4th, the troupe performed at the Cultural Center of San Antonio city in Chile, receiving a long and rousing round of applause from the impressed audience. Ambassador again highlighted India's cultural richness and diversity in his speech, showcasing its colorful history, captivating arts, and enduring values. Finally, on April 5th the troupe performed at the Municipal theatre in Valpariaso city of Chile in the presence of Ambassador, dignitaries and a large gathering of music and dance lovers. They wowed the Chilean audience with their stunning performance, and the inspired crowd even joined the troupe on stage to learn some intricate Indian dancing steps, creating a beautiful fusion of cultures and a memorable night of celebration. Activities for promotion of Mission LiFE were undertaken by the Embassy during April 2023 including a special focused week campaign during 3-13 April 2023 on Embassy’s social media platforms, website, etc. Activities included energy-saving, water-saving, reducing single-use plastic, promoting sustainable food, waste reduction, and a healthy lifestyle. Actions like using LED bulbs, fixing leaks, carrying personal water bottles, and advocating for Eco-friendly practices were encouraged. The campaign also emphasized the benefits of millets, medicinal plants, and tree planting. E-waste reduction and recycling of electronic devices were promoted. These actions contribute to a sustainable future and reduced environmental impact.

The Embassy of India, Santiago celebrated International Day of Yoga on Saturday, 17 June 2023 in association with the local Municipality of Las Condes in Santiago at their Gymnasium. The event was organized with participation of Chilean Yoga Schools and with an impressive gathering of mainly Chilean enthusiastic yoga lovers, Mission officials and some members of the Indian diaspora, braving the severe cold weather during the winter season in Chile. Ambassador S. Bhattacharjee in his address to the gathering highlighted the importance and benefits of Yoga for all in their daily life. Yoga for peace and harmony, benefits of yoga for body as a physical exercise and its benefits for mind through meditation. Yoga’s role in providing relief from the stressful lifestyle in modern time and reducing the chances of developing serious ailments like heart attack, hypertension, depression, etc. He thanked the participants for coming in big numbers and stated that Chile is one of the few countries which celebrate their own Yoga national day and has many yoga shools. The Yoga asanas under Common Yoga Protocol were performed by the Chilean Yoga Gurus which were following simultaneously by all the participants. At the last session, a brief meditation session was also conducted by the Yoga guru from Brahma Kumaris Chile. On the occasion of IDY 2023, three photo exhibitions on Yoga, Ayurveda and Tourist attractions of India were displayed for the public.

As part of the Ocean Ring of Yoga initiative for International Day of Yoga, the Mission organized a Yoga Session on 21 June 2023 on board of the Chilean Navy Supply Ship “Almirante Montt”, the largest ship operated by Chile Navy, at the port of Valparaiso in Chile. Chilean Navy personnel and members of the Mission joined the yoga session and performed yoga as per the Common Yoga Protocol under the supervision of yoga teacher from local Loknath Yoga school in Chile. Ambassador addressed the participants and spoke briefly about the origin of International Day of Yoga, the benefits of yoga and its relevance in the present day life style. Ambassador thanked the Chilean Navy for being a part of the Ocean Ring of Yoga initiative. As a gesture of appreciation, Ambassador presented books on Yoga to the Fleet Commander of the Chilean Navy Rear Admiral Roberto Zegers, who was instrumental in organizing the event on board of the Chilean ship. For Ocean Ring of Yoga initiative, Chile is one of the three countries which permitted the yoga session on board of their Naval Ship while at other places the yoga sessions were conducted on board of the visiting Indian Naval Ships.

Release of Spanish translation of ‘Gitanjali’ : The Mission in association with the Society of Writers of Chile organized an event on 8 August 2023 for release of Spanish translation of the book ‘Gitanjali’ by renowned Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The book brought out by the Mission also contains writings on Tagore by Chilean literary personalities. Representatives from Chilean Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Education were also present at the event. Ambassador addressed the impressive audience on the occasion and highlighted on the work and life of Rabindranath Tagore and his world famous Nobel prize winning book Gitanjali and about its translation in Spanish and many other languages of the world. He appreciated the writers who contributed for its Spanish translation.

Independence

The Embassy celebrated 77th Indian Independence Day at its premises. Ambassador Subrata Bhattacharjee hoisted the tricolour on 15 August 2023 in the presence of members of Indian diaspora and friends of India. Ambassador read out excerpts from the President’s address to the Nation. He then shared the activities carried out by the Mission during the last one year and also highlighted the strengthening bilateral relations between India and Chile, with the Indian diaspora present at the event. This was followed by cultural performances by children of Indian diaspora on patriotic songs. The Mission has also showcased photo exhibitions on Ayruveda and Tourist attractions in India. The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) of India, in association with the Embassy of India, organized a very successful Handicrafts Exhibition & Buyer-Seller Meet in Santiago on 12-13 March 2024 in which 25 Indian exhibitors presented their exquisite handicrafts, reflecting the rich heritage and diverse skills of Indian artisans. A high level Indian delegation led by Secretary (Mines) visited Chile from 14-18 April 2024 for participation in World Mining Congress and CRU World Copper Conference. The delegation included Additional Secretary of Ministry of Coal; Under Secretary of Ministry of Mines; representatives from Indian PSUs like HCL, CIL, NTPC, CSIR and private industries like Adani Enterprises, Hindalco and Lohum. On 22 October 2024, the Embassy participated in a unique event at Pontifical Catholic University Center for Asian Studies reflecting on the deep relationship between Nobel Laureate Gabriela Mistral and India and its vibrant culture. Indian Embassy official spoke about the deep influence of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo on Gabriela Mistral’s works and her thought process. During the event, Professor Magda Sepúlveda gave a brief talk on Mistral’s relationship with Rabindranath Tagore and Jessica Sequeira talked about Mistral’s connection with Sri Aurobindo. There were also presentations on “meditation in Mistral’s work” by Martina Bortignon and “yoga and Mistral’s spiritual exercise” by Macarena González. The event ended with a musical performance by Juan Elgueda on santoor and Jessica Sequeira on tabla playing Hindustani classical music and showcasing the vibrant culture of India.

On 11 November 2024, the Embassy hosted a special event to mark the launch of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz (#BKJQuiz) by Dr. S. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

On 12 November 2024, Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, launched the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2025 websites alongside the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha. The PBD Convention, a flagship event of the Government of India, offers a valuable platform to engage with the global Indian diaspora. The 18th PBD Convention scheduled to take place from 08-10 January 2025 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in partnership with the Odisha State Government. To commemorate the launch, the Embassy organized an information and cultural event for the Indian diaspora at its premises. Mr. Kishan Dadlani, President of the Indian Association in Santiago and a past PBD participant, led the community gathering. Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi, along with embassy officials, engaged with attendees, encouraging them to register for PBD 2025 and spread the word among the diaspora in Chile. The event featured captivating performances by Chilean artists in the classical Indian Odissi dance style, beautifully promoting Odisha, the host state of the upcoming PBD Convention. International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrated with immense enthusiasm in Santiago! On 21 June 2025, yoga practitioners, enthusiasts and friends of India in Chile gathered at the Municipal Gym, Las Condes, to mark #IDY2025, embracing the timeless wisdom of Yoga for "One Earth, One Health". The event started with a Special documentary screening highlighting Yoga’s journey and impact on the lives of the people. Thereafter, Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi addressed the vibrant gathering, highlighting Yoga’s power to promote holistic well-being, harmony and balance - not only within individuals but across societies. Her inspiring words resonated deeply with the participants, reflecting India's civilizational message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” - the world is one family. This grand event was the culmination of an extensive Yoga outreach by the Embassy, held in collaboration with multiple yoga schools across Chile. Distinguished Indian astronomer at the famous Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile

Dr. Kshitija Kelkar, an Indian astronomer from Pune, has made remarkable strides in the field of astrophysics at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile. As an Observing Specialist, she played a key role in the commissioning and operation of the Simonyi Survey Telescope, which houses the world’s largest optical camera- Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). Her team was instrumental in capturing and processing the first images from the LSST Camera, unveiled on June 23, 2025. Her doctoral research had introduced new methods for understanding galaxy structure and star formation using data from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Telescope in Chile.

On 09 July 2025, Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi delivered the welcome address at the “India Day” business seminar in Santiago, co-organized by the Federation of Chilean Industry (SOFOFA) and the Chile-India Chamber of Commerce (CAMINDIA) in collaboration with the Embassy of India. The event witnessed participation from top business leaders and representatives of Indian and Chilean companies, reflecting the growing momentum in bilateral trade and investment. During the occasion, Ambassador Joshi highlighted India’s robust economic growth and its vision to become a developed nation, that is, “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, emphasizing new opportunities for Chilean investors as India undergoes transformative development.

 

The seminar was also addressed by Chilean Foreign Minister H.E. Alberto van Klaveren and other key dignitaries including Ms. Rosario Navarro, President of SOFOFA, Mr. Jorge Guerrero, President of CAMINDIA and Mr. Antonio Walker, President of the National Agriculture Society of Chile, who expressed strong interest in deepening economic ties with India, especially in view of President Gabriel Boric’s recent State visit to India in between 01- 05 April 2025 and the ongoing negotiations for the India-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

 

Two panel discussions namely “Key Factors in the Indian Market: Innovation, Growth and Potential for Chile” and “India and its Trade Liberalisation: What Can Chile Expect”, explored innovation, trade liberalisation and emerging sectors, thus, offering a valuable platform for collaboration and networking between both nations.

On 14 August 2025, the Embassy hosted a grand reception to mark the 79th Independence Day of India which was graced by the presence of H.E. Alberto van Klaveren, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, as the Chief Guest, alongside H.E. Esteban Valenzuela, the then Minister of Agriculture and Ms. Claudia Sanhueza, Undersecretary of International Economic Relations (SUBREI). It was attended by over 200 distinguished guests, including Chilean officials, senators, deputies, mayors of different municipalities, diplomats, business leaders, academics and prominent members of the Indian diaspora. A highlight of the reception was a special display of products under the Government of India’s flagship “One District, One Product” (ODOP) initiative. This showcase presented unique handicrafts, textiles and specialty goods from different districts across India, each carrying a story of local heritage, skill and tradition. Moreover, on 15th August, the official Independence Day function was held at the Embassy premises, in which Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi hoisted the National Flag and read out the excerpts from the President of India’s address. She also highlighted the key points from Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Red Fort speech.

Inauguration of the ‘Viksit Bharat Run 2025’ at Parque Inés de Suárez, Providencia

The Embassy in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with support from the Municipality of Providencia, successfully organised the "Viksit Bharat Run - Run to Serve the Nation" on 28th September 2025 at Parque Inés de Suárez, Providencia. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 150 runners that included Embassy officials and their families, members of the Indian diaspora, friends of India in Chile, Indian students studying in different disciplines in Chile, representatives of different Indian companies in Chile such as Kalpataru, Tata Consultancy Services etc., who all came together to celebrate India’s vision of progress and partnership. During the occasion, Hon’ble Mayor of Providencia, H.E. Jaime Bellolio Avaria, and Ms. Nathalie Guzmán, Director of Community Development, joined Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi in inaugurating the event. Their presence reflected the deepening ties of friendship and cooperation between India and Chile.

The programme opened with a Yoga demonstration conducted by the Chilean Academy of Yoga, followed by the flagging off of the 3 km community run by the Ambassador and the Hon’ble Mayor. Participants then took the Viksit Bharat Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to India’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 which will be a developed India by the centenary of independence. Medals, certificates and Indian refreshments were shared with all, reinforcing the celebratory spirit. Embassy hosted Gandhi Jayanti celebrations with diaspora and scholars

The Embassy of India, Santiago commemorated Gandhi Jayanti 2025 at Plaza de la India, Santiago with solemnity, reflection and community participation. The event witnessed the presence of around 75 participants including Embassy officials, members of the diaspora, officials from the Municipality of Providencia and friends of India in Chile. The ceremony began with students of República de la India School singing the National Anthem of India, followed by floral tributes at the statute of Mahatma Gandhi by Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi, along with Embassy officials, diaspora members, Mr. Leopoldo Vallejos, Coordinator of the Cabinet, Municipality of Providencia, and the distinguished Chief Guest Prof. Sergio Melitón Carrasco. In her remarks, Ambassador highlighted Gandhiji’s timeless ideals of truth, non-violence and peace that continue to inspire the world. Prof. Carrasco, an eminent Indologist and scholar, spoke on Gandhiji’s principle of Ahimsa and underlined its enduring relevance in addressing contemporary global challenges. Also Ambassador Joshi gifted a set of books to the República de la India School to be placed in the already specially established “India Corner”, at the premises of the school, to be used by the School Community. The celebrations were concluded with a tree plantation ceremony at Plaza de la India under Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi’s flagship initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. The Embassy also organized exhibitions on Ayurveda and Khadi products from India, for the visual display, thereby, popularizing the traditional systems of Medicine of India as well as the clarion call of "Popularising Swadeshi Products" given by Hon'ble Prime Minister. Throughout the occasion, the Gandhian bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je”, deeply associated with Mahatma Gandhi, played in the background, lending a serene and reflective atmosphere.

The Indian Leader of Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi arrived in Chile on a private visit from 03-06 October 2025. As was reported in the local media, Chile's Socialist Party Secretary General, Camilo Escalona, met him alongside members of the International Secretariat of the Socialist Party, led by former Foreign Minister of Chile, Heraldo Muñoz. IV International Meeting of the Los Ríos Region and India Week Activities

India’s partnership with Chile reached a new milestone when the country was honored as Guest of Honor at the IV International Meeting of the Los Ríos Region in Valdivia from 9-12 October 2025. The event brought together regional leaders, business delegations, universities and international partners to highlight cooperation in trade, technology, culture and education. Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi and Second Secretary represented India at the meeting, leading a vibrant program of engagements that reflected the growing depth of the India-Chile relationship. The visit began on 9 October with warm local outreach, when Ambassador Joshi and the Second Secretary met Saturnino Quezada Solís, Hon'ble Mayor of La Unión, and discussed opportunities to expand cultural exchanges, youth engagement and economic linkages with the local community. Later in the day, India’s presence was highlighted through the "Chile-India International Forum", featuring speakers from ESC, EdCil, ORF & Consilium Group and local dignitaries. Ambassador Joshi highlighted growing India-Chile relations and leadership in tech and innovation. On 10 October, Ambassador Joshi and Second Secretary visited the headquarters of Telsur, a leading regional telecommunications company, and held discussions with the visiting IndiaSoft business delegation and ESC India, underscoring opportunities to strengthen ICT collaboration and digital connectivity. This was followed by a visit to the University of Austral campus, where Ambassador Joshi met Pro-Rector Dr. Gustavo Blanco Wells and explored possibilities for academic cooperation, student and faculty exchanges and joint research initiatives. Later in the afternoon, Ambassador Joshi participated in the launch of IndiaSoft 2026 in Chile, where she invited a Chilean delegation including representatives from the Los Ríos Region to join the 26th edition in New Delhi in March 2026. Following this event, Ambassador Joshi and Second Secretary attended a meeting with Carla Amtmann Fecci, Hon'ble Mayor of Valdivia, where discussions focused on strengthening people-to-people ties, expanding cultural and educational cooperation and working towards potential Sister City initiatives between Valdivia and wetland Indian cities to institutionalize long-term collaboration. The day concluded with the inauguration of the India Stand at Parque Saval, which became a highlight of the International Meeting. Participation of delegation of Government of Punjab in IDF World Dairy Summit 2025

In October 2025, a delegation from the Government of Punjab, led by Sh. Alok Shekhar, IAS (PB:1994), Additional Chief Secretary (Cooperation), along with officials of the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd. (MILKFED), participated in the International Dairy Federation (IDF) World Dairy Summit held in Santiago from 20-23 October. The delegation interacted with global policymakers, scientists, and industry leaders on issues related to dairy sustainability, innovation, nutrition and the application of emerging technologies such as AI in the dairy sector. MILKFED highlighted Punjab’s cooperative dairy model and its role in supporting farmer incomes and ensuring large-scale, efficient milk procurement. Third round of negotiations between India and Chile were held for Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

The third round of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Chile and India were held in Santiago. The inauguration session featured remarks by Vice Minister Claudia Sanhueza from Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations (SUBREI), Pablo Urria, Chief Negotiator - SUBREI, Ricardo Mayer, Director General of Bilateral Economic Affairs -SUBREI, Ambassador of India Abhilasha Joshi and Vimal Anand, Joint Secretary (Chief Negotiator)-Department of Commerce. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to further enhance bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation, paving the way for a more comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership. In relation to CEPA, the president of Frutas de Chile (the sectorial brand of the national fruit sector and its subsectors, that has the objective to position fresh Chilean fruit in the world), Iván Marambio, emphasized the significance of the CEPA for Chile’s fruit exports, highlighting the high tax burden on Chilean fruits in the Indian market. He pointed out that products such as wines, walnuts, apples and kiwis, face high tariffs in Indian market. However, Chilean cherries enter the Indian market with zero tariffs, offering a competitive advantage. He also emphasized the need to resolve logistical issues and generate promotional activities to develop the market. India currently represents nearly 2% of Chile's total fruit export volume, so consolidating a CEPA with India could lead to export growth and strengthen Frutas de Chile's diversification strategy. During the 2024-25 season, Chile shipped 56,672 tons of fresh fruit to India, with apples (58%), kiwis (30%), pears (8%) and cherries (2%) being the most exported fruits.

Chile and India held 9th Round of Foreign Office Consultations

The 9th India-Chile Foreign Office Consultations co-chaired by Secretary (East) Shri P. Kumaran and Secretary General of Foreign Affairs Amb. Rodrigo Olsen were concluded in Santiago. Discussions covered political, economic, defence, critical minerals, education, cultural and global issues. Both sides reaffirmed commitment to advancing the India-Chile partnership, building upon the State Visit of Chilean President Gabriel Boric to India in April 2025.

On the sidelines of the FOC, Secretary (East) interacted with representatives of Chilean business community, discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and investment, particularly in minerals, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, automobiles and agriculture, encouraged Chilean business leaders to visit India to explore opportunities in its vast and dynamic market and reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to deepening economic partnership by expediting CEPA negotiations.

He also led the Indian delegation including JS(SA) to meet Executive Vice-President of Chilean Copper Commission (COCHILCO) and discussed deepening the cooperation in the area of mines and minerals, including copper, lithium and other critical minerals.

Similarly, discussions were also held with Undersecretary of Health of Chile on diversifying bilateral engagement in health and pharmaceuticals, traditional medicines and yoga. The discussions stressed on the need for simplifying the registration processes for access to quality and affordable medicines and also joint R&D in health sciences.

Secretary (East) also called on Vice Minister Claudia Sanhueza, Undersecretary for International Economic Relations (SUBREI) and discussed about advancing the India-Chile partnership by reviewing the areas of trade expansion, digital public solutions and pathways for an equitable, modern and mutually beneficial CEPA.

As part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebrations with a special tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and India’s tribal heritage, the Embassy organised a special One District One Product (ODOP) display featuring iconic tribal crafts from across India. The exhibition highlighted the artistic brilliance and cultural heritage of tribal communities through Warli paintings from Maharashtra, Todi Baaji belonging to Gadwa tribe, Dhokra metal art represented by Nandi idol worked upon by the Dongria and Kondh tribals, Blue pottery designs mastered by Padhar and Bhil tribe and palm-leaf engraving from the Saura tribe, among others. Moreover, Indian coffee types were also on display during the occasion.

Embassy and ISKCON Chile brought the Bhagavad Gita to Life for the joyous celebration of International Gita Mahotsav 2025

The Embassy in collaboration with International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Chile, successfully celebrated the International Gita Mahotsav 2025 at the ISKCON premises in Santiago. The event brought together a vibrant gathering of over 125 participants, representing the Indian community, friends of India in Chile, scholars, students and devotees of the Bhagavad Gita, alongwith Embassy officials.

Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi and Mr. Jagat Guru, ISKCON Chile Representative, spoke on the occasion, highlighting Bhagvad Gita’s timeless relevance, and distributed copies of the sacred text in spanish to all the guests.

A major highlight of the evening was a captivating Spanish-language theatrical performance depicting the iconic moment from the Mahabharata where Lord Krishna imparts life-transforming wisdom to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Performed by local theatre artists in the roles of Dhritarashtra, Sanjaya, Arjuna and Lord Krishna, the play received heartfelt appreciation for making India’s civilisational treasure accessible to a wider Chilean audience.

Etm 2025 was held successfully in Santiago

The Emprende tu Mente (EtM) event was held in Santiago, where India was accorded the status of “Guest of Honor”. Chilean President H.E. President Gabriel Boric visited the India Pavilion, where he was warmly received by Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi and the Embassy team. In the Indian pavallion, he interacted with Indian companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Kalpataru Projects International Limited, ESSAR and others, each showcasing India’s strength in technology, innovation and manufacturing.

At the EtM inauguration, Ambassador Joshi highlighted the positive trajectory of India-Chile relations following President Boric’s State Visit to India in April 2025 and underlined India’s growing global leadership in AI, machine learning, digital innovation and emerging technologies. It was also formally announced that United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be the Guest of Honour for EtM 2026. As part of the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Embassy, a special moment was dedicated to honour the 150-year legacy of India’s National Song- "Vande Mataram". In a heartfelt tribute, the gathering took part in a mass singing of Vande Mataram, led by a member of the Indian diaspora in Chile, Ms. Sakshi Mittal and joined by Ambassador, Embassy officials and diaspora members. Ms. Mittal has been a dedicated cultural ambassador and has represented India in Chile for over a decade. She was also a featured performer at KalaKumbh, part of MahaKumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, under the Department of Culture, Uttar Pradesh. India and Chile reinforced their pharmaceutical and economic cooperation during the India-Chile Pharmaceutical Business Forum and B2B meetings held in Santiago from 2-3 February 2026, organised with support from Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) and Ministry of Commerce. The forum was inaugurated by Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi along with Shri Raja Bhanu, Director General of Pharmexcil, highlighting India’s growing global pharmaceutical footprint and collaboration with Chile for affordable healthcare access. Key engagements included discussions with the Head of ANAMED (Chile’s medicines regulatory authority), National Director of CENABAST, focusing on regulatory cooperation, procurement opportunities and smoother market access for Indian pharmaceutical companies, along with the representatives of the National Chamber of Laboratories, Chile’s pharmaceutical trade chamber, where the interactions focused on industry-level perspectives, opportunities for collaboration between Indian and Chilean pharmaceutical companies looking for ways to deepen commercial linkages and partnerships across the pharmaceutical value chain.

Chile presented Second Progress Report on Feminist Foreign Policy ahead of International Women’s Day

On the eve of International Women's Day (8 March), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile presented the Second Progress Report on the implementation of Chile’s Feminist Foreign Policy Action Plan. The report outlined progress in mainstreaming gender equality across Chile’s diplomatic engagement, including strengthening women’s participation in international affairs and integrating gender perspectives into foreign policy initiatives. Ambassador Abhilasha Joshi attended the event and welcomed Chile’s continued emphasis on gender equality in its external engagement, noting the growing global recognition of inclusive and gender-responsive approaches in diplomacy and international cooperation.

Visit of Hon’ble MoS Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh to Chile for Presidential Inauguration Ceremony

Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs and for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, visited Chile to represent India at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. The visit underscored India’s strong and growing partnership with Chile, as well as its continued commitment to deepening engagement with the Latin American region.

During the visit, Hon’ble MoS called on the newly elected President of Chile, José Antonio Kast, ahead of the oath-taking ceremony. He conveyed warm greetings and best wishes on behalf of the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu and the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in key sectors such as trade and investment, critical minerals, clean energy and innovation. He also engaged with senior leaders of Chile, sharing cordial and meaningful exchanges that reinforced the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Importantly, he represented India at President's oath taking ceremony at the National Congress, Valparaíso and congratulated the people of Chile on this important democratic achievement.

Hon’ble MoS also attended the Protocol Greetings and Reception hosted by outgoing President Gabriel Boric and wished him well for his future endeavours.

A notable highlight of the visit was the plantation of a sapling of Pyrus Calleryana at Plaza de la India in Santiago, alongside the Mayor of Providencia Jaime Andrés Bellolio Avaria, under the initiative of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. This symbolic gesture emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability, while advancing the global relevance of Mission LiFE. Here, he also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and observed a moment of silence in his honour.

India-Chile Trade & Tourism Promotion Event was held in collaboration with CAMINDIA

The Embassy organized the India-Chile Trade & Tourism Promotion Event at the National Chamber of Commerce (CNC), in collaboration with Chile-India Chamber of Commerce (CAM-INDIA), bringing together key public and private stakeholders to strengthen bilateral ties through tourism.

The programme featured presentations from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the Latin American & Caribbean Travel & Tourism Expo (LATTE), highlighting opportunities to deepen engagement between India and Latin America. From the Chilean side, the participation of National Tourism Service of Chile (SERNATUR), Fundación Chile and leading tour operators, reflected strong institutional and industry commitment to expanding cooperation.

Discussions focused on promoting wellness and sustainable tourism, fostering cultural exchanges and increasing tourist flows between India and Chile, while opening new avenues for collaboration across the tourism ecosystem.
