Processing time
5–6 weeks after receipt of the complete application, subject to a clear police report from India.
Important notice
- The Embassy does not send acknowledgements or updates on PCC applications. Please do not call or email to check the status or receipt of your application.
- Use the online status tracking on the portal where you applied, and your courier tracking number to confirm delivery to the Embassy. You will receive an email when your PCC is printed and ready for collection. The PCC must be collected from the Embassy.
- Applicants must upload a photograph and a signature. Applications without them will not be processed.
- Photographs must comply with ICAO standards; see the instructions for photographs and documents. Upload the documents in the portal when filling in the application.
- If someone else will collect the PCC for you, the email informing you that it is ready contains an authorisation letter you can give them.
- You may also arrange for a courier company to collect it. The Embassy is not responsible if the PCC is lost after it is picked up.
- The PCC is issued only after clearance from the local police in India. Requests for urgent issue will not be entertained. Deadlines set by Chilean authorities are the applicant’s responsibility, and delays caused by the police verification are not the responsibility of the Embassy. Applicants may coordinate with the local police in India.
- This information is indicative and not exhaustive. The Embassy may ask for additional documents or information.
How to apply
- Make sure your current passport is valid; preferably 3–6 months of validity left. If the passport expires before the PCC is issued, it cannot be issued. If you have applied for a re-issue of your passport, apply for the PCC only after the new passport is issued.
- Fill in the application online at mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission and select “Applicant Login”. Use a laptop or computer. Complete the one-time registration, create a user ID, log in and fill in the form. The file number is on the last page of your current passport.
- Upload an ICAO-compliant photograph, a scanned signature and all relevant documents before submitting (mandatory): a self-attested copy of your passport and of a valid Chilean visa or RUT. If the address in your application differs from the one in your passport, upload proof of address.
- Print the application in portrait orientation. A correct form shows the name and address of the Embassy of India, Santiago at the top of the first page. Check all details carefully: errors cannot be corrected by pen later, and the Embassy is not responsible for errors made by the applicant.
- Sign the printout and send it, or bring it in person, with the documents below.
Documents
- Copy of the first and last pages of your current passport, self-attested. Do not send your original passport.
- Copy of your valid Chilean visa or Chilean RUT. If you entered Chile on a visa valid for less than 90 days, include the PDI slip given at immigration (also upload it in the portal). If you entered Chile on a US visa and need the PCC to extend your stay, upload the copy of your valid US visa with the PDI slip.
- One recent photograph, 2 inches × 2 inches (51 mm × 51 mm), light background, the same one uploaded in the portal.
- Proof of payment: see the fee schedule. The payment proof must show the date of transaction, amount, Embassy account number, the ARN of your application and the applicant’s name.
- Proof of address, if your address differs from the one in your passport (also upload it in the portal).

Status of your application
Track the status at mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission/TrackApplication. No separate acknowledgement email is sent; the PCC form or the status page can be used as proof of applying, if required.
Track your courier to check the delivery date at the Embassy, then wait 3–4 working days. If the online status does not change, email cons1[dot]santiago[at]mea[dot]gov[dot]in with (a) application/ARN number, (b) passport number, (c) type of service and (d) courier tracking number with the delivery date, or the date of submission in person. Please avoid repeated phone calls.
| No. | Online status in the portal | What it means, time frame and next steps |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | PCC application form has been submitted. | Applications received by courier or in person are checked and entered in the system. If incomplete, you may receive an email asking for the remaining documents, or the application may be returned within the first 8–10 working days. The time frame counts only from the date the complete documents are received. Status 2 is updated within 3–4 working days of receipt of the complete application. |
| 2 | PCC application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate. | Your application is complete and online processing has started. |
| 3 | Police Verification has been initiated and a request has been sent to Indian Embassy/Consulate. PCC needs to be collected from the Indian Embassy/Consulate where the applicant applied after a ‘Clear’ Police Verification Report is received. | The Embassy has granted the application and sent the file digitally to the police station in India, where it is pending. The Embassy has no role in the physical police verification in India. The police may take up to 2–3 weeks to verify and a further 3–5 working days to upload the report. If the status does not change in that time, approach the police in India through your relatives or contacts. Do not approach the Embassy to expedite the police clearance in India. |
| 4 | Police Verification report is clear. PCC is available for issuance. | The police have submitted a clear report. The PCC will be issued and you will be informed by email within 2–3 working days. |
| 5 | Police Clearance Certificate has been printed. | The PCC has been issued and signed by the Consular Officer. It is an apostilled document of the Government of India, issued only in English (no Spanish version is possible). The personal particulars and date are system-generated and cannot be changed. If the Chilean authorities refuse the PCC because the time limit has lapsed, you must apply for a new PCC. |
| 6 | Police Verification Report is not clear, and application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate. | The police have uploaded a negative report and the PCC cannot be issued. |
Processing time and jurisdiction
Processing time for a PCC on an Indian passport is 5–6 weeks after receipt of the complete application at the Embassy. This is tentative; the Embassy has no control over the process with the police in India, and you may receive the PCC earlier. No phone or email queries will be entertained before this time. After the Embassy processes the application, the police verification in India must be coordinated by the person living at the Indian address in the application.
The Embassy has jurisdiction only over Chile. Applicants not living in Chile must contact their nearest Indian Mission.
Notes
- This page is for PCC for Indian nationals holding a valid Indian passport. Foreign nationals: see Police Clearance (Foreigners).
- A fresh police verification is conducted for every applicant. Apply well in advance (at least one month).
- Keep a copy of the PCC form and documents: the police may ask for them during verification in India.
- The online form asks for the passport file number: it is on the back page of your passport.
- Sign the printed application and submit it in person or by registered courier (with tracking) with all mandatory documents.
- Do not send your original passport; a self-attested copy of the bio pages is enough.
- Police verification is done at the Indian address printed in your latest passport. If it has changed, give the new address in the application and upload proof (water, electricity, telephone or gas bill, ration card, Aadhaar, voter ID, bank statement with photograph, or parent’s passport copy).
- If your personal particulars have changed since your latest passport was issued, first apply for a re-issue of the passport, then for the PCC.
- Enter the local police station correctly: the Embassy cannot redirect the PCC to the correct police station.
