Ambassador's Message
Welcome to the updated Website of the Mission. I, accompanied by my wife Mrs. Madhumita Pradhan, arrived in Santiago on March 4, 2014, to take up my assignment, just prior to the Inauguration of the newly-elected President of the Republic of Chile H.E. Dr. Michelle Bachelet Jeria for the term 2014-2018. Later, on April 8, 2014, I presented my Letter of Credence to President Dr. Michelle Bachelet, formally accrediting myself as Ambassador of India to the Republic of Chile.
Both Chile and India enjoy warm, friendly, and cooperative relations, signified by exchange of high level and Ministerial level visits, speedy growth in bilateral trade, business delegation visits, technical cooperation, and people-to-people contacts. Bilateral relations reached new heights with the visits of H.E. President of India Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil to Chile in April 2008 and of H.E. President of Chile Dr. Michelle Bachelet to India in March 2009.
Return of Dr. Michelle Bachelet to power for the second stint coincided with smooth conduct of the General Elections in India, landslide victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and allies in the elections, and election of Mr. Narendra Modi as the new Prime Minister of India.
My mission in Chile would be to further deepen and improve the existing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in all areas – particularly political, economic and commercial, trade and investments, technical cooperation, education and culture. Priority areas in which cooperation could be enhanced include agriculture, energy, S&T, education, IT, mining, healthcare services, so on and so forth.
